Signs of a Moth Infestation

You may have seen a moth in your house and wonder what the signs of a moth infestation include. The main sign to watch for are holes in your clothing, particularly those made of natural materials such as wool, silk, leather, and fur. You may also noticed webbing attached to your clothing or in the corners of your closet. Affected clothing will also typically have a discolored or dusty appearance, as well as an unpleasant musty smell. Moths may also infest outdoor areas, your kitchen, pantry, carpets, and any other area of your home. If a caterpillar is found, capture it to help assist with identification of the species involved in the infestation.

Affordable Household Moth Control

Following extermination, it is important to follow up with standard household moth control sanitation measures. All clothing or household linens stored in the affected closets should be washed in hot water and dried on high heat to kill any lingering moth eggs. All interior surfaces should be wiped with a soapy vinegar and water solution. Walls, floors, cracks, and crevices should be scrubbed with a scrub brush to dislodge any moth eggs present. Vacuum thoroughly. In the future, never store any items that have not been thoroughly washed or dry cleaned after they have been worn. Infrequently worn items should be sealed in airtight containers or bags. Keep your closet neat and tidy to promote air flow and a cooler environment that is less hospitable to pests. Master’s Pest Management also offers affordable follow-up services.
